GETTING THEIR FIX: Surfers go to at last enjoy decent waves yesterday after a lean period. Gisborne Herald photographer Liam Clayton took this shot from Pines looking out to Tuaheni Point.
It has been lean pickings for surfers at Wainui and Makorori in recent weeks, so yesterday's clean, one-metre waves had them out in force.
Herald photographer Liam Clayton and videographer and keen surfer Ben Cowper headed out yesterday to shoot some action at Wainui and Makorori.
Ben was frothing to
get out himself after what he said had been “rubbish” conditions this year, not helped by ex-tropical Cyclone Hale.
The last decent waves he could recall were a couple of days during the Rhythm and Vines music festival at the end of last year.
Usually around the time of the year, they get consistent, clean surf — nothing particularly big but rideable.
