One of the least fortunate side effects of your newspaper being printed in Auckland is that deadlines for copy now seem to be much earlier. For example, the ministerial report into forestry, available last Thursday morning, was not reported in your paper that evening (May 11). The Super Rugby results from last Friday (May 12) were not in the Saturday edition published the next day. The final straw is the Wellington fire news, which was being streamed out early on the morning of May 16 but could not make the paper that evening.
Is the omission of up-to-date news the price we pay for the relocation out of town?

Footnote from Ed: Our first story on the Ministerial Inquiry into Land Uses report was published on the Gisborne Herald website late on Thursday morning, before it was covered by other media. But yes, printing The Gisborne Herald in the evening rather than at midday on the day of publication does shift our copy deadlines for the newspaper considerably. See today’s editorial.
