Auditions for musical comedy School of Rock, produced by Musical Theatre Gisborne, are on this weekend.
Andrew Lloyd Webber bought the rights to the show for a stage musical in 2013. The musical has a book by Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes
People might be more familiar with the earlier incarnation that is the classic School of Rock movie, starring a hilarious Jack Black.
Here in Gisborne, the musical is being directed by Belinda Campbell who has previously directed The Addams Family and will be working alongside music director Waiora Paul-Utiera and choreographers Kylah Ashwell and Paul Hawaikirangi.
The story hinges on failed wannabe rock star Dewey Finn who takes up his friend’s job by posing as a substitute teacher. With no qualifications for teaching, he instead starts introducing the students to the glories of rock music.
