“These numbers underscore the strength of Air New Zealand's domestic network, which is one of the best in the world, and the confidence Kiwi families have in getting out to explore this beautiful country of ours.”
Air New Zealand took more than 915,000 bookings across New Zealand from December 15 to January 31.
“We're enjoying a bumper season and bringing much-needed visitors to regional New Zealand,” said Ms Geraghty.
Trust Tairāwhiti regional tourism manager Adam Hughes said it had been a busy season so far, with solid visitor numbers.
“We've had lots of family groups coming through enjoying our popular tourist hot spots. Local beaches, freedom camping areas and campgrounds have been busy and there have been plenty of visitors enjoying the Tolaga Bay Wharf, Rere rockslide and stingray feeding.
“Tourism operators have reported visitors to be mostly respectful and responsible in line with the Covid traffic light system.
“Despite there being no R&V this summer, the region has still experienced the usual holiday period surge from Boxing Day through until January 10. Hopefully the busy season continues, and more visitors get to enjoy the traditional Tairāwhiti summer holiday.”
