A re-think on allowing industrial operations in Awapuni Road could be on the cards after Mayor Meng Foon agreed to look into concerns raised by nearby residents.
Given the nearby industrial subdivision, residents have complained that increasing operations, combined with dust issues and possible new businesses involving heavy vehicles in
the area, make living in the street “horrible”, ‘horrendous” and an “absolute nightmare”.
However, Mr Foon said there had been a “good turnout” of residents at a neighbourhood meeting on Wednesday, where he had been impressed by their vision for the area.
“Why, one minute from the beach, do we have commercial light industry? It was agreed to form an Awapuni residents group and I will write an initial paper to the council in February to ask the council to work with the residents group.”
Mr Foon said he was “keen to advance the matters” brought up by residents, which included increasing noise and industrial operations, as well as dust issues and the quality of State Highway 35.
