Two of Gisborne’s favourite spots for recreation — the Makorori Headland reserve and Titirangi (Kaiti Hill) are closed until further notice.

The Makorori Headland is unstable in multiple areas with slips causing subsidence. People are asked to stay out of the reserve.

Titirangi (Kaiti Hill) is also closed to all vehicles and pedestrians.

Due to slips, track instability and road damage, the road and all walking tracks will be closed until full assessment of roads, trees and land can be made. Once deemed safe, walking tracks will reopen but the road closure will be in place for some time.

Gisborne District Council asks that people adhere to signs and stay out of the reserves until future notice.

Other reserve closures are Whataupoko Reserve, DeCosta Reserve and the Australian Garden at the Botanical Gardens.

Most sports fields remain closed to give the grounds time to recover.
