A Life Membership Award was presented to Norman Grey in recognition for his services to U3A over 13 years .

A certificate and bouquet of flowers were presented by U3A president Anne Pardoe to Mr Grey at Gisborne Cosmopolitan Club last month.

“From committee to having around 100 members in singing groups and three ukelele groups, Norman has been a  stalwart of U3A and has brought many hours of music and comradeship to the members,” said Mrs Pardoe.

Mr Grey fondly recalled having performed his fair share of music over 40 years and eventually starting the singing group Semiquavers with his friend Margaret Dunsmore in 2010.

“I feel overwhelmed and grateful for such an honour. It has been an enjoyable journey all the way through.”

After receiving his award, Mr Grey was entertained by supporters who accompanied themselves on their ukeleles to give a stirring rendition of “For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow.”
