Re: Kopuawhara disaster.
My father worked at this site but was one of the fortunate ones who was home for the weekend in Gisborne when the tragedy occurred.
Our thoughts go to those unfortunate people who were killed. We must not forget the sheer hard work they and others put
into the line with very basic equipment. The trouble is we have not moved with the times on this line.
We have spent, and continue to spend, millions on roads. This is good, but rail has a place and should be kept up and running. The trouble is that political parties have done little to assist and promote beautiful places such as Gisborne.
To repair the line will never be any cheaper than it is now. It will be needed now and in years to come. Our younger generation will not thank us for not taking this action now.
