Opinion

Why does Turanganui a Kiwa need an indoor recreation facility? You could also ask, why does Gisborne need a new swimming pool? You already know the answers, but only one of these things is days away from becoming a reality.

Our region does so well to punch above its weight in so many different sports, and the lack of a quality indoor facility is just another barrier that puts us on the back foot from the outset.

I can’t believe that in this day and age, we still have to write a letter to the editor to justify how useful a quality indoor stadium would be.

I’ve seen kōrero about a three- or four-court stadium — that would put us in the 1990s. If we’re thinking about the future, surely it needs to be six courts minimum.

I can only imagine the talent that would find even more national and international success, if we could invest in our own future by having a multi-use indoor stadium in Turanganui a Kiwa/Gisborne.

There are nothing but positive outcomes which would come from having a decent stadium in our city. Let’s make it happen.
