Ukaipo or the Big Latch-On at Puku Ora cafe on Thursday was a celebration of breastfeeding. The virtual community event was for all breastfeeding mothers to share their current “belfie” (breastfeeding selfie) to the Facebook page of Breastfeeding East Coast - Wai U Tairawhiti (BEC) . There were prizes to
be won.
“Protecting and promoting breastfeeding takes a chain of support that includes health systems, workplaces, communities and individuals, just like you! Join us as we celebrate this amazing taonga,” said a post on the Breastfeeding East Coast Facebook page.
The latch-on was on the same day as the launch of Amy Wray's Mama Aroha App.
The BEC said the indigenous app was a world first which would change the lives of many.
Puku Ora was packed with Gisborne mums who took part in the big latch-on and celebrated the launch of the Mama Aroha app.
