A MALE kayaker died yesterday morning after being caught by floodwaters in a river south of Lake Whakamarino at Tuai inland from Wairoa.
Police said in a statement that an emergency locator beacon was activated on the Waikaretaheke River just after 10.30am yesterday.
“The emergency services responded to the incident
but found the man deceased, in the water, when they arrived.”
His body was recovered and police will conduct enquiries into the death on behalf of the Coroner.
Police said the man was caught by water released from floodgates on the river.
