Turanganui Schools Maori Cultural Festival came to a close yesterday after thousands of children from across Tairawhiti took centre stage to show off their waiata and haka skills. The week-long festival featured kapa haka groups from early childcare centres, kohanga reo and kindergartens through to secondary school. Meanwhile the Tamararo 2020 two-day kapa haka festival started today at Te Poho o Rawiri Marae. Performances started at 9am today after a whakatau and karakia. The event will be livestreamed and covered by Maori Television. Entry is by koha.
