A contaminated Kāinga Ora home that had sat empty for more than six months, falling into serious disrepair and being broken into multiple times, has been demolished.
In July, the house in Huxley Road made headlines when a young homeless Gisborne family broke in out of desperation.
It had been sitting empty for about a month at that time, but the family-of-four’s stay was short-lived after Kāinga Ora informed them it was being tested for methamphetamine contamination.
It was the site of several break-ins, but has been demolished to make way for newer housing, Kainga Ora says.
