A group of the district’s Waste-free Warriors were out in force last week.
They collected a huge pile of rubbish from along part of the city beachfront.
In just a couple of hours’ work over a five-kilometre stretch of beach, what they found was “quite frankly horrific”, Gisborne District Council
said on social media.
“From dead animals to discarded seafood, black bags filled with animal faeces, car tyres, garden waste, household furniture, appliances, scrap metal and much more.
“If you see or notice any damage to our public places, spaces or assets, make sure to call it out. Please get in touch with us at 0800 653 800 24/7,” the council post said.
