A reminder for people travelling on State Highway 35 tonight that the Hikuwai Bridge No.1 Bailey bridge will be closed from 7pm this evening until 6am tomorrow for deck grip installation.
NZTA/Waka Kotahi said motorists would be able to use the nearby Pourau Road bypass to detour and they should allow additional time for their journey.
The Hikuwai No.1 bridge was destroyed in Cyclone Gabrielle. A Bailey bridge was installed next to it and opened in June of last year while work is under way by Transport Rebuild East Coast for permanent replacements for the two bridges crossing the Hikuwai River on State Highway 35 near Tolaga Bay.
