The MetService has maintained a heavy rain warning for Gisborne today, forecasting up to 180mm of rain in places.
The heavy rain warning is valid from 9am today to 12pm Friday.
Periods of heavy rain and isolated thunderstorms will bring 120mm to 180mm to accumulate about the ranges north ofGisborne City, with 70mm to 100mm elsewhere.
Thunderstorms can be expected this evening and Friday morning.
