Those without a dog can join in the fun in support of the cause, says Ms Lovell.
Mutts and Moggies is a nonprofit organisation that helps animals through de-sexing and finding them ‘fur-ever’ homes.
All of its proceeds directly benefit the animals including vet care and vaccinations.
Mutts and Moggies volunteer Manuella Stettler said when Kirstie posed the idea of “Howl-o-ween”, she was thrilled.
“My partner, our friend and I have been volunteers for the past two years.
“Over that period of time we have rehomed 120 dogs, mainly out of the Gisborne pound.
“We adopt dogs from the pound, assess them and, in most cases, desex them with the help of the Fred Lewis Foundation.
“I can’t wait to see all the costumes and I bet I wont stop saying ‘awwwww’ the whole time.”
Ms Lovell stressed that dogs at the Howl-o-ween event must be child and dog-friendly.
“Make sure your dogs are leashed, under control at all times, registered and that their vaccinations are up to date.”
