Gold Creek takes its name from a creek running through the property. Early settlers thought they had found gold but it turned out to be iron pyrite.
Logan and Joan founded the commercial herd over 30-years ago.
Jim and Rachel were next to take over and Tom Sanson and his wife Adeline are now at the helm.
“It is now a 100 percent Simmental stud breeding operation which means the focus is now totally on breeding bulls for our commercial farming clients,” Tom said.
They employ a fulltime shepherd and employ seasonal staff when needed, and Tom is also a business partner with Andrew Cribb who between them own Whangara Angus Stud.
Tom returned to the family farm in 2008 and took on a management role.
In 2009 he took the opportunity to buy various cows from stud dispersals and from these purchases Gold Creek Simmentals was established.
“A huge point of difference is the use of imported genetics via AI and an embryo transfer programme sourcing genetics from Australia, Canada and USA.
“The Simmental world gene pool in New Zealand isn’t that big so we decided to do things differently and expand the gene pool with new genetics.
“Simmentals have high growth rates, high yielding carcasses and as a terminal cross they cross so well with most breeds. There can be up to 25 percent increase in hybrid vigour, they work really well.”
The sale day offering can be viewed from midday on Monday, with the sale to start at 2pm.
