Winter is coming and the district got a taste of it weather-wise and sporting-wise as a few winter codes were in Saturday action.

YMP’s Jayda Banks goes high to try to block  Horouta’s Becky Hindmarsh from sending the ball on to a teammate at the Kathleen Henderson Memorial netball tournament on the Victoria Domain courts — the traditional precursor to the Gisborne netball season.

Just over the road, Childers Road Reserve hosted the annual Geoff Logan Memorial football tournament.

Up the road at Harry Barker Reserve, Gisborne Boys’ High School and their Napier counterparts were in hockey action on the turf.

And at Patutahi’s Paddy’s Park, Ngatapa  Rugby and Associated Sports Club hosted the Ngatapa 15s involving six teams.
