Coxco staff rolled up their sleeves and got stuck into some beach clean-up work on the city beachfront yesterday as an opportunity to give back to the Tūranganui-a-Kiwa community. The company had 25 staff, including 10 from Wairoa who travel to Gisborne daily, involved in the initiative. They targeted the area by the Midway Surf Lifesaving Club and worked their way towards the Waipaoa river mouth.
“We were supplied resources by Gisborne District Council to help our beach-cleaning operation,” said Coxco managing director Omi Badsar. “Our efforts were highlighted by clean three- to four-foot swells, light offshore winds and clear blue skies.
“Our staff value this wonderful beach resource and the working opportunity they are given daily to work on these Tairāwhiti lands, supported by our local iwi, hapū, growers and horticulture industry,” he said. They filled hundreds of bags with rubbish picked up from the beach.
Getting stuck in to the mahi yesterday were, from left, Yugal Gupta and his daughter Tianna Gupta, Sharon Te Maro, Herena Tuapawa and Aaba Tibwere.
