Yet another weather record has been broken for Gisborne, with yesterday setting a new mark for the hottest September day in 68 years.
Around 2pm the mercury hit the 27-degree mark, after near windless conditions saw the heat build up steadily from early morning.
Yesterday’s high broke the 68-year-old record of 25.4 set on September 24, 1955.
It was the warmest day since March 10.
There have been six September days in the past 25 years on which the daytime temperature has reached 24 degrees or higher.
