Contractors have moved on to the bank of the Taruheru River by the Peel Street bridge to carry out further work on the bank revetments.
"It's a continuation of the same project," a council spokeswoman said.
"This is the second section, covering 62 metres, following the completion of work doneby the rotunda."
The riverbank walkway will be blocked by the Peel Street site until December 24, when this latest project has been scheduled for completion. More revetment work is programmed for March to June next year.
