“Three of them had moderate injuries, and the other had minor injuries.”
Back Ormond Road was closed at the crash site for just over an hour while the victims were cared for and the crash scene cleared.
Police have an inquiry under way into the circumstances involved.
Both vehicles stayed on their wheels after they came into collision.
■ At around 11pm Saturday night a vehicle left Lavenham Road and struck a concrete power pole, bringing down the lines.
“When we arrived there was no one with the vehicle,” a senior Gisborne firefighter said.
“We searched the area around the vehicle for its occupants, including using a thermal imaging device, but found no sign of anyone.”
Police have an inquiry under way.
■ At 8.28am on Sunday the Trust Tairawhiti Rescue Helicopter was called to Ruatoria for a motor vehicle accident.
The chopper’s on-board critical care flight paramedic assessed and treated the patient, who was flown in a stable condition to Gisborne Hospital. St John officers and Ruatoria police were on the scene to assist.
