The first five finalists in the Poverty Bay A&P Spring Show dog trial championship were found yesterday after 67 of the 210 entries were put through their paces at the back of the Showgrounds Park. “The Rangatira Station sheep were very good all day, and there were some high scoring runs,” said head steward Allen Irwin. “Conditions were perfect pretty much all day.” All the competitors involved yesterday were from this district. The top five were Merv Utting and Bob with 98 points, Henry Gaddum and Tau 97.5, Leo Edginton and Larry 97, Phil Cook and Jack 95, Allen Irwin and Slug 94.5 (pictured). Voters and A&P Show-goers alike should be pleased the weather outlook for Gisborne is good for tomorrow and Saturday.
Both the election and gate figures of the Show rely on clear weather for the best turnout, as has been shown from the figures of past years.
It has also been claimed that some political parties’ voter turnout is more susceptible to the state of the weather.
Despite the volatility of spring and unfavourable forecasts for other districts, MetService’s forecast for Gisborne has no bad news on the horizon.
For Friday, MetService is forecasting fine, sunny weather with northerlies and a high of 22 degrees.
