FIREFIGHTERS were called to a house in Worsley Street in Kaiti on Tuesday morning after a cigarette that somehow went down the back of a seat in a bedroom in the home started a fire.
Fire and Emergency New Zealand sent crews to the house at around 8am.
“When the
occupants realised the fire had started they raised the alarm,” a senior firefighter said. “We got there in time to contain the fire to the bedroom, and that was the only area of the house that sustained fire damage.”
The occupants of the house were not injured.
