A109 Light Utility Helicopter flight with mayor Gisborne City from the air in November 2023.
THE alarm was sounded at Te Araroa late yesterday morning after a small boat appeared to be in difficulties offshore from a beach two kilometres east of town, but it turned out to be a false alarm with good intent.
Police were contacted just before midday.
“People on the beach
reported that the people in the boat appeared to be trying to signal to them,” a police spokesman said.
“There were concerns for the boaties' safety. The people on shore thought they might have been in distress.”
Police watched the boat from shore while they organised members of Ngati Porou Surf Lifesaving Club to attend.
