Daily temperature highs in the mid to late 20s this week and then 30 degree days on Saturday and Sunday will draw plenty of people to the district’s beaches and the surf lifeguards encourage beach- goers to swim between the flags.
“The weather is heating up considerably, which is awesome,” said SLSNZ club development officer for Gisborne/Tairāwhiti Jessica Buscke.
“Our paid lifeguard service operates at Wainui, Midway, and Waikanae between 10am and 6pm Monday to Friday, and the volunteers at the weekends,” she said.
“We ask that beach-goers enter the water between the red and yellow flagged areas of the local beaches and be mindful the flags can be shifted as the tides or conditions change.
“As always, we urge people to slip, slop, slap and wrap. As much as we are grateful for these beautiful summer days, sun protection is vital in this hot weather.”
