It is great news that the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle is 12 weeks pregnant. Congratulations to both Meghan and Prince Harry on setting an example of loving parents who welcome their child with joy.
It is encouraging that the media are referring to the child in the womb as
a baby, and to Meghan as pregnant with child. It is significant that the media are recognising the child as a baby and a human being.
This recognition of the humanity of the child is important and is in stark contrast with the philosophy of the New Zealand Family Planning Association which warns the media not to humanise the child in the womb by calling it a baby or a child. They insist that a child up to 12 weeks gestation should be called an embryo and that after 12 weeks till birth a foetus.
It is important that the media continue to call the child in the womb a baby, as the Government wishes to deny the humanity of the child by decriminalising abortion; taking abortion out of the Crimes Act, which recognises that the killing of the unborn child, a human being, is a serious crime.
