Expecting a busy summer ahead

Gisborne District Council has detailed and updated some of the road maintenance that has been going on around the region as the reinstatement work continues in the wake of the cyclones.

“It’s going to be a busy summer with planned work including reseals, pothole repairs, grading and metalling,” the council said on its website.

“Some of that work is happening now around the district, and there are sites which have traffic management in place, so expect some delays.”

The  updates cover:

• Keelan Road — road widening, drainage work and clearing culverts.

• Kopuapounamu Road — road widening, drop-out repairs, drainage work and culvert clearing, instal new culvert, clearing slips and metalling.

• Shortcut Road — drainage, culvert clearing, instal new culvert, clearing slips and metalling.

• Whakaangiangi Road — road widening, drainage, culvert clearing and instal new culvert and metalling.

• Ihungia Road — various sites busy over the next week with repairs to drop-outs, slips, fallen trees and stockpile clearing.

• Tauwhareparae Road — crews working on flood repairs.

• Waikawa Road — installing culverts, drainage and metalling to continue.

• Waipiro Road — two culverts installed.

• Bushy Knoll Road — slip clearing. (This road is closed to everyone except residents.)

• Parikanapa Road — the road is narrow in places and safety work is planned including road widening and metalling.

• Pehiri Road — work continues, with hopes to reopen the road soon.

• Wharekopae Road — work to improve school bus access.

“Over the next week the culvert jetting team will be on Bailie, Manders, Mangatu, Utting and Whatatutu roads and also roads in Whatatutu township.”
