The training suction dredge Albatros has started a 12-day campaign clearing naturally accumulating sediments along the Eastland Port shipping channel, turning basin, Wharf 7 and Wharf 8.
“So far the Albatros crew have worked in the Wharf 7 berth pocket to remove the infill from the last 18 months while the wharf has been under construction,” a Port spokesperson said.
“They have also completed a small amount of work in the shipping channel, and progress is going well considering the first few days there was some swell,” she said.
“This is consented, routine work we do annually to ensure ships can transit and manoeuvre safely.” Albatros will depart on September 7 and will be going into dry dock for a 10-year service in Lyttelton.
