RESPONSIVE AUDIENCE: Cr Meredith Akuhata-Brown with her pink audience at the Matapuna Training Centre yesterday.

Anti-bullying campaigner Meredith Akuhata-Brown met a responsive audience of Matapuna Training Centre students yesterday on Pink Shirt Day.

Ms Akuhata-Brown says anti-bullying is a high-profile issue today, but "sadly" the issue is "as bad as ever".

She told students they have to stand up and take action — "do not be a bystander to bullying".

The district councillor said the campaign fitted in strongly with civics education or "what kind of world do we want, and what kind of action should we take".

Students also put on a play and enjoyed some laughs with Ms Akuhata-Brown.

She said Pink Shirt Day was not a one-off exercise.
