The fact that NZ First is actually standing a candidate in Tairāwhiti can only be seen as an upgrading of our local democracy.
The recent head to head between Labour’s Chris Hipkins and National’s Christopher Luxton showed us that neither of those parties will really do anything to support farmers or primary producers and we know that the Greens will continue to scapegoat them in terms of emissions and general responsibilities in relation to global warming.
In terms of the actual ‘head to head” it appears that the two leaders were almost holding hands, and the head to head was just a play-fight. None of the major parties are being realistic when it comes to fixing the economy, health or housing.
It is likely that one of the major parties will be able to form a coalition after the election. A “handbrake” party in that coalition, to control the impotent and loony policies of such a coalition, is essential.
The voters will decide which party will be the “handbrake” this time around.
