There were also 564 contents claims worth $11.8m, 372 motor insurance claims amounting to $4.2m. Four marine claims and 39 “other” claims worth a combined $800,000 accounted for the remainder of the total insurance claim cost of $86.18m.
The damage was even worse for Hawke’s Bay, which amassed 18,526 claims worth $1.065 billion.
