A COUPLE at a house in Lytton Road tackled a fire in their bathroom last night that involved a faulty wall heater. They were able to stop the fire from spreading further. The fire service sent an appliance to the home at around 11.15pm.

“The wall heater malfunctioned and caught fire when the residents turned it on,” said Station Officer Ed Hindmarsh.

“The man in the house grabbed a fire extinguisher and put the fire out while his partner isolated the power to the house.

“Because of their quick actions the damage was contained to the actual wall heater which was a fairly new one,” Station Officer Hindmarsh said.

Firefighters removed the damaged unit and ventilated the house with a pressure fan.
