The Gisborne District Council has put out an update on the ongoing road recovery around the region, working to repair and reseal Tairāwhiti’s fragile roading network.
“An epic achievement last week with the completion of the Te Kowhai causeway connecting residents of Te Kowhai Rd in Whatatutu who had been isolated since Cyclone Gabrielle,” the council said on its Facebook page.
“Residents can now cross the river by car after a temporary causeway was installed.”
Work continues on roads in the Hikurangi area, including Cross Road, Mangaoporo Road, Lottin Point Road, Potikirua Road, Reporua Road, Kakariki Road,Wharekahika Road and Wharf Road at Hicks Bay.
In Uawa, work is continuing on Rangikohua Road, Mangatokerau Road, Paroa Road, Tauwhareparae Road, the Upper Ihungia Road, Tuakau Road, Waiau Road, Upper Mata Road, Puketiti Road, Horehore Road, Makarika Bridge, Waipiro Road, and Tauwhareparae Road/Mangaheia Bridge #4, where slash has been removed, and temporary repairs have been undertaken to allow light vehicle access across the bridge.
