I would love to congratulate Alison Crawford on her New Year Honours award — well overdue, may I say. If anyone deserves this award, Alison does. She has worked tirelessly for the Country Women’s Institute.

The institute was one of the biggest women’s organisations here in New Zealand but over the years the numbers have dwindled due to women working now, and one gets to see their neighbour now. It was a godsend for me back in the day. I belonged to the Rakauroa CWI and that turned my life around academically and gave me confidence.

Alison and others like you are so amazing in what you do, still promoting CWI — but now the “Country” has been dropped from the name, it’s just WI.

So well done Alison and congratulations once again. Thank you for your passion for the Women’s Institute.
