THE Lion Foundation Coastguard boat was called in by police yesterday about 11am, after a small runabout with one person on board broke down off Young Nicks Head.

“The 15-foot fibreglass runabout was reported to be in trouble about seven nautical miles out from Eastand Port,” a Coastguard spokesman said.

“Another boat that happened to be nearby began a tow but the conditions got a bit heavy for them, and that's when police called for us,” he said.

A larger boat in the vicinity took over the tow and that proved successful so police stood down the Coastguard boat. The runabout and its occupant were towed safely back to port.
