Childers Road is sinking. It’s true. The 60 to 70 orange road management cones that have been in Childers Road, near Disraeli Street, for more than three weeks, are there to ensure the safety of road users.

A Gisborne District Council spokeswoman said a tomo or sink hole had caused the road to sink.

Contractors have not been able to visit the site, but will do so when work commitments allow.

“The site cones and signs were installed early as the road surface had sunk and caused issues for traffic,” said the spokeswoman.
