CEDENCO will make a start on the annual sweetcorn harvest around January 20 and prospects for the season look promising, says agronomy manager David Oudes.
The company is set to harvest around 32,000 tonnes of sweetcorn in the Wairoa, Gisborne and Tolaga Bay districts this season.
“The potential is definitely
there for a good season but we are in need of some further rain,” Mr Oudes says.
“It would be good to get some rain in the next 10 days. Any amount of it would be well received.
“That’s across all three of our growing districts.”
