It is easy to get the sequence of electoral “bottom lines” incorrect. I believe it was Winston Peters who first said he would not work with Labour again in coalition. That then elicited the expected negative reply from Chris Hipkins.
This leaves me wondering if in considering the possibility of both Labour and National being in the position of being able to form a coalition government, but only with the help of NZ First, would Mr Hipkins change his mind?
Of course, Mr Hipkins would have to be suitably contrite and agree to some “bottom line” demands from Mr Peters for such a coalition to occur.
In my opinion, such an arrangement with NZ First would be the only move Mr Hipkins could make which might keep Labour out of the political wasteland of being the Opposition for the foreseeable future.
If Chris Hipkins intends to make such a move, he better do it quick — like now! Time, tide and politics waits for no man, or political party.
