Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency contractors are putting in extra bridge protection at Turihaua.

“Our contractors are currently on site at Turihaua Bridge SH35 working underneath the northern abutment of the bridge, to repair scour damage caused by a number of recent weather events,” a Waka Kotahi spokesman said.

“This includes installing rocks to provide additional protection for the bridge.

“This work will strengthen the resilience of this stretch of SH35.

“Separately, a water cutting operation is being carried out in the area to remove excess bitumen from the road, improving traction and skid resistance for road users. This is an annual maintenance operation.

“There are no road closures as a result of the work, but there is traffic management in place while these works take place. Road users are advised to continue exercising care and caution while driving these roads.”
