“The machine we had was over 10 years old and this new machine is so much more advanced.”
Ms Patricio said the team had been working on the project for over 18 months and the machine is the only one of its type in Tairāwhiti.
“There’s high worldwide demand for these machines so we were lucky we got in when we did,” she said.
“It’s been a long journey to finally
be able to offer this service but it’s all been worth it. Our women deserve the best.”
Gisborne Hospital radiology manager Debbie Cordiner said local women should see their doctor if they notice any lumps or bumps.

“With a referral from your doctor, we can book you in for a scan in a matter of days or weeks, if needed.”
