A109 Light Utility Helicopter flight with mayor Gisborne City from the air in November 2023.

With sadness  another tradition has come to an end. For years young people were able to earn a little for themselves or to help families.

A big thank you to our paper boys and girls and parents who have delivered The Gisborne Herald to Dunblane for the past 10 years for me, and many more before, to my villa and others in our complex. They have been so kind and caring and it has been really appreciated, especially in the wet weather, that we were able to reach for the paper without a long walk to the boxes.

We will miss the smiles and the pleasant talks we have had and we wish you all many happy years ahead, whatever your endeavours are for your futures.

Although a computer will never replace  the bright smile and wave  through the window, at the end or beginning of our day, I’m grateful I can still sink into a chair after a tiring day, hold the paper in my hands and read the news of my community and the world around me. Hopefully I’ll be long gone by the time you digitilise the whole environment.

So, thank you all from a grateful octogenarian.
