The $200,000 project (above) to upgrade the Lytton Road culvert through which the Matokitoki Stream runs at Lytton West is nearing completion. Following Cyclone Gabrielle and the rain event at the end of February (right), extensive repairs were required as the culvert was not able to cope with the amount and intensity of rainfall. “The bank erosion caused a serious risk to the road and footpath which had started to undermine,” the council said. “As Lytton Road is a main link to the hospital and Ormond Road, this solution will future-proof this section of road from any further heavy rain events. Contractors have make great progress and the project should be completed in a week, weather dependent.” The project has been fully funded by central government.
