I sincerely hope the council does not waste any more ratepayer money on clearing wood debris from the town beaches.
With winter and more stormy weather on the way, and the very high likelihood of more wood arriving on the beaches, this would be a futile and senseless waste of thousands of dollars.
I urge council to say no to further beach clearing expenditure until early summer and better weather arrives.
Those who want to join Peter at the dyke can volunteer their own cash towards a private effort if they so wish — but I remind them of King Canute who told his courtiers he wasn’t foolish enough to think a king could hold back the tide.
Or storm-damage wood debris coming down rivers.
