A man accused of rioting and assaulting a police officer during last year’s anti-mandate protests on Parliament grounds in Wellington, has been refused bail.
Damon Preston, 30, appeared last week in Gisborne District Court via an audio-visual link from a prison remand unit.
He pleaded not guilty to the rioting
charge but guilty to an associated charge of assaulting a police officer with intent to use a weapon.
He also faces charges for breaching bail by failing to attend previous court appearances.
Judge Warren Cathcart remanded Preston into custody for a case review hearing in the Wellington District Court on October 4. The charge to which he pleaded guilty, will run alongside.
