Gisborne Dog Training Club’s annual obedience and agility championship was held over two days at the A&P Showgrounds on King’s Birthday Weekend.
About 77 ability dogs, who carried out 400 runs on the obstacle course, and 50 obedience dogs, took part this year.
Organiser Amerillis Farmer said the turnout was
well down on previous years due to uncertainty about the region’s road networks in the wake of Cyclone Gabrielle — the majority of dogs and owners come from outside the district.
However, that did not stop competitors and keen observers from having a great time.
“The event is well known for having a relaxed atmosphere,” Amerillis said. “The weather was stunning and everyone who came had a great day.”
