Orere Angus at Pehiri kicked off the Gisborne component of East Coast Angus Bull Week yesterday morning with an almost total clearance and a top price of $65,000.

Ben and Kylie Johnson sold 19 out of the 20 rising two-year-old bulls they put up by auction in their first on-farm sale.

Orere’s Lot 1 was purchased by Ratanui Angus, the Story family, from Tuai.

The average across the sale was $11,989.

“It was a fantastic sale,” said PGG Wrightson genetics representative Emma Pollitt.

“I think the Orere team can be really proud of themselves and of the result they achieved in their first on-farm sale.

“They pulled it off wonderfully after the weather setbacks caused by the cyclones,” she said.

“It was a lovely line-up of cattle, bid on by a great bench of local buyers.

“All round it was a well supported sale.”

A top of price of $65,000 was paid for Lot 1 yesterday morning at the Orere Angus sale, and for a couple of hours it was the top priced Angus bull sold in the district so far this ‘Bull Week’.
