Opinion
We are two Christchurch mums who both started our businesses recently, and are passionate about getting children outdoors and connecting with nature. We are bringing a film to Gisborne called NaturePlay — Take Childhood Back, which will screen at the Emerald Hotel on November 28 from 7pm.
Winner of seven
international awards, with incredible cinematography, NaturePlay explores the concept of education through play in nature. It looks at the Scandinvian method of udeskole, which is practised through forest kindergartens, after-school clubs, nature-based play areas, adventure playgrounds and through increased break time at school.
By comparing the US and Scandinavian education systems, people are left asking: How can we make sure New Zealand doesn’t end up like America?
Following the film, we will lead an equally thought-provoking discussion on nature play in New Zealand that really cements this inspiring film and discussion as a must-see for parents, ECE teachers, primary teachers, urban designers and anyone interested in education.
