68 reported to have Covid in Tairāwhiti

Health NZ figures show 44 deaths from Covid 19 have been reported in the week ending at midnight on Sunday.

None of those deaths occurred in Tairāwhiti, but there are 68 active cases in the district.

There have been 25,927 cases in Tairāwhiti since Covid-19 broke out in February 2020.

There are 6554 active cases across New Zealand, taking the total to 2,544,013 cases.

Of the 44 deaths reported, deaths, one was in Northland, 14 in Auckland, six in Waikato, three in Bay of Plenty, one in Hawke’s Bay, three in Manawatu-Taupo, one in Whanganui, three in Wellington, one in Nelson-Marlborough, five in Canterbury and six in Otago-Southland.

One was aged in their 20s, one in their 50s, five in their 60s, nine in their 70s, 14 in their 80s and 14 were aged over 90.

Of these people, 20 were women and 24 were men.

As at midnight Sunday January 7, 355 people were in hospitals with Covid-19 including six in intensive care.
